hi, just wondering
i currently have cable internet connection. and it is supply internet to 3 computers and a notebook via 5 port hub and NIC with Wingate 3.05.
I have some relatives that is going to move into my house, which will add 2 more computers and 1 notebook.
with just cable do i have enough connect for all the computer to have fun (note: 56k is not fun)
SO HERE COME THE QUESTION
IF I ALSO GET ADSL, AND A SWITCH OR ROUTLER.
DO I GET COMBINE SPEED OF CABLE AND DSL?. Ie. say cable upload is 40K. DSL is 20K. with switch or routler, I get 60K upload????
second. Does Switch or Routler come with hardware firewall right?( does that mean i can dump Zonealarm2)
and if i do get a switch or routler. is there any point to keep the hub?

First, you would need another hub, or a larger one, to accomodate the added connections.

Second, using two connections like that would be tough to set up and would require more than a small gateway 'router'. You're better off with one connection only. Chances are all the machines won't be using a lot of bandwidth at the same time, so you should be alright.

Yes, a gateway 'router' does incorporate a hardware firewall. You would be able to get rid of Wingate as well as Zonealarm. Some of these small gateways do ahve built-in switches or routers which will give you the additional ports you need. If you go with the hardware gateway/firewall, keep the hub and connect it to the gateway as well to give you the connections you need for the amount of machines you specified.

only 15% ;)

Here's what you do: get the linksys 4 port router, plug the hub into the router (use uplink on the hub -> regular port on router) and plug the other computers into the hub and router (these combined will give you enough ports). Then plug the cable modem into the router's WAN port and you are basically done (depending on how things are setup now)...

Nope, you won't need internet sharing software anymore since the router will do the NAT for you... you can dump wingate...
