Is it possible to have two seperate networks with ONE computer connected to both at the same time? This computer must not be a server.

Basically this is the setup I'm going for.

NETWORK A : a certain group that has the internet.
NETWORK B : one person from network A that can also share files with another person that doesn't have access to network A.

I hope this is clear enough... sorry...

*if* i understand you correctly, then you *should* simply be able to put 2 Network cards into the one comuter from NETWORK A that shares with the other person

basically, the old NIC would still be used for net access, but you could set up the second nic with file and printer sharing enabled in networking properties, and it could share files with a computer that is NOT on NETWORK A....of course, in that setup, the other computer would not have 'net access, but would have file sharing access

what OS are they all running?

should work. it's basically like how you would make your win98 computer into a router (i.e. with 2 nics and ICS enabled)
but in your case, you wouldn't enable ICS....

Doesn't sound too hard, but how would I go about configuring this? (I'm a total newbie when it comes to networking)

ok, lessee

well, if network A is already set up, you wouldn't change anything as far as the settings on the NIC for network A

what you would need to do is install a SECOND network card. once it's installed, you would go to network properties and you need 3 things there:

client for ms networks
tcp/ip
file and printer sharing for ms networks

next, you would need to make sure the the computer hooked up to this from network B has the same workgroup as this computer (the one on network A)

you need to make sure that the computer on network B also has all 3 things installing networking properties

is network A already up and running?

i'm off to bed, but either i or someone else should be able to help you truly configure it all later if this isn't enough...just let us know

<< Ok... would that setup prevent other users from network A going into network B ??? >>

yeah, it would

i'm not sure if i'm making the setup 100% clear to you though

does any of this exist yet?

let me know, and i'll try to answer tomorrow
