Hello Forum. Sorry for the questions but for reasons unknown, our network has really been acting up.
For starters, our officejet 6500 wireless printer stopped working correctly when we tried to connect our new laptop to the printer. We were able to successfully pair the laptop and the printer but after a week, it stopped working. From there, I tried to reset and restore the printer but it did not work. After trying to wirelessly connect the printer to the computer using the installation CD, It said the IP address was not valid. Later I noticed the printer was assigned an IP address that began with 169, which after researching that number, it meant that it could not successfully connect to the network.
So that is issue number one. I dont know how to assign a valid IP address to the printer, but I do know where I can enter those numbers into (on the printer).
The second issue is that now that we had 2 computers running windows 7, I enabled the Homegroup feature, which allows both computers to share information. Around the same time the printer started to act odd, the homegroup feature stopped working. Even though the feature was enabled on both computers, they could not detect themselves on the network. I tried to rejoin the homegroup on both computers but it did not work. So, I dont know how to fix the homegroup issue. I tried to troubleshoot the problem but it seemed like the settings for both computers were correct.
The last, and the most important problem, is that while trying to fix the IP address problem, I accidentally gave the IP address of my Ipod touch to my printer while I was trying to fix my printer. The IP address of my ipod used to be 192.168.xxx.xxx. Now it is 169.254.xxx.xxx after I tried to give the previous IP to my printer. As of now, I cleared the network information on my printer so it no longer has the IP address 192.168.xxx.xxx. But my ipod still has the 169. IP address, even after logging onto the network again. So, how can I fix this problem from the computer and not from the Ipod. I was able to determine all of the IP addresses using the Norton network map application but I cannot reassign IP addresses. So the real question is how can I reassign IP addresses on the network.
Sorry for the questions but I have one more that may fix all of these problems if it is possible. We are using the router supplied to us by AT&T. If we were to kill our current router and exchange it for a new one with a different 2wire , could all of the IP addresses be reset so the computers, printers, and my ipod be fixed?
Thanks in advance for the answers and sorry for my lengthy question.
