My husband computer and mine are connected to the local ISP. Our computers are linked by a Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet 100 Base TX 4 port hub. His computer (OS 98SE) is the master with a Linsys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet adapter. My PC has a 10MB 3 com 3C900 PCI Net interface card.
I have recently upgraded my OS to XP Home (Clean install). I have lost my eathernet settings and am no longer able to connect to the internet through my husbands PC.

Can someone give me (simple step by step) instructions on how to reset my (our) connections?

:brokenheart: hugs with thanks...... ShirleyOma

how exactly are you connecting through his machine are you using software or the buit in ICS (internet connection shairng) if it ics then it should simply pick up it settings automatically and continue on. if you are using a third party software package then you are going to have to give a bit more info

also what connection are you using to your isp is it cable dsl or dialup as this will also make a difference to being able to help you

before we can offer any help we need to know

1) software that is sharing the net
2) type of connection to isp dialup dsl etc
3) the TCP/IP settings from his machine the ip address and subnet mask most important.

bit more inof and we can go from there. if you wish to give it bash ya self then head to http://www.wown.com/ and have a dig around loads of useful info for beginners

Thank you for replying to my problem, before I heard from you another Tech had given me directions on getting the problem solved........ I now am able to get on the Internet via my husbands computer and the sharing of documents 'shows' the hand under both our computers folders..... BUT..... we cannot use the network Neighborhood sharing......... His computer shows both computer icons (his & mine), but when he clicks on my computer icon... say's access is denied. On both our computers we have everything checked for sharing... If you have any ideas I would appreciate your input... thank you again for helping me...
We manuelly set the IP address settings... we have the old dial up system... local ISP....

1. Use Simple File sharing.

2. Install NetBEUI for local sharing.

Info about it at the link in my above post.
