Networking problem using Win ME..help!

Hey all heres my problem..im using Win ME on both computers. Im using the Linksys Network in a box bit 10/100..2 NICS and a Hub. I have installed all the hardware correctly in both PC's..theres no conflicts. I have TCP/IP and IPX/SPX on both systems. I set up my IP's to 192.168.0.1 on PC1 and 192.168.0.2 on PC 2. I followed all the instrictions from practicallynetworked.com. Im using a 15' cat 5 cable that came with the Kit and also a home made 70' cat 5E that i got made up by some guy. Both PC's ping to themselevs but not to each other. Think it coulbe be a cable problem.? On PC1 i also have a Kingston NIC with a cable internet hookup. When i try to a ping test i get a request time out for the 4 pings..i see the lights blinking on the Hub and the lights are on on the NICS. HELP!!!

So you have one NIC hooked into the cable modem? You have two NICS in one computer? Little unclear here.

PC1: Linksys NIC (for my network)
Kingston NIC (in use for cable modem)

PC2: Linksys NIC(for my network)

Cat 5 is hooked up from Linksys NIC to HUB from PC1 and then the 70' Cat 5 is hoked up from Hub to PC2 Linksys NIC.

The netmasks are the same for the 192.168.x.x network? Should be 255.255.255.0.

Could be the cable. Try pulling the cables and pulling up on the tab on the end of the connector and reinserting. Might just be loose.

yep netmasks are 255.255.255.0 and cables are inserted ok..still no go

Do you have any games that use IPX protocol for networking? If so, load up the game on both computers and try playing them. If it works, then your network is working. If not, then something is wrong [usually a bad cable].

BTW - what's the model # of the linksys kit?

No pings = hardware problem. Troublshoot the NICs.

Install the NetBeui protocol and File and Print Sharing on the two PCs. Share the harddrives of the two PCs (I'd unplug your cable modem first, however). Can you see the two PCs in Network Neighborhood? Can you connect to the other PC by typing at Start -> Run... \\<name of other PC>

The above tests if there's a physical link problem or configuration problem. If you can see the other PC after doing the above, you have a configuration problem of some sort. If not, start replacing hardware.

What's the IP address of the Kingston NIC?

Look for a reset on the linksys hub/switch. I had a linksys 10/100 hub that would give my problems like that and I had to stick a pin in a small hole to reset it and it would then work fine.

I would make sure that you are not into a x over port on hub, try new cables. Also, not that this is a fix, but Add NetBuei protocol. This will tell you if there is an error on TCP/IP or not. Make sure that your subnet mask is the same on both CPUs.
