I have two computers connected by a router, which is in turn connected to my internet connection. Both computers are connected to the internet, both computers can ping one another by IP, and ONLY one computer can ping the other by name. My problem is that I cannot browse or share files between the two computers. Both computers have active "Local Area Connections."

I'm sure you did this but have you allowed for sharing? What I mean is did you right click on the drives or folders and enable sharing???

Yes I shared the root drives on each computer, and still could not access them. They are also both in the same workgroup.

Did you share them as $C or change that default value? I think the $ means admin or something...

Make sure you have file and print sharing service installed on both machines, look in Network properties and it will give you the options there.
