Networking Options

My dad has decided he wants to network our computers in the house. However, he is trying to do it as inexpensively as possible. Now me, knowning little to nothing about networks, took a trip to CompUSA to find out a little more. Basically I was told phone-line networks are terrible, wireless is expensive and slow, and hardwiring is the only way. I was just looking for a little more info on each. If you guys could point me to websites, or tell me in this post that would be great. Oh! I will be doing quite a bit of gaming over the internet, which means I need a fairly fast network.

Thanks a lot

Surprisingly good info from CompUSA. Stick with the guy that gave you that advice, he'll be able to walk you through it.

Inexpensive as possible and he heads to CompUsa? Only reason I go there is to check resolution and printing speed on printers. I don't go often though.

Last time I went there I aksed the guy in the networking section for some CAT 5 crossover cable. He handed me some BNC and walked away.

How many computers do you have, how far apart, and what are their operating systems? Who has the internet connection?
