I've got a network problem that's got me stumped. I about 8-10 months ago I helped my brother-in-law setup a home network using a Linksys 4port router with 2 win98 systems. It connected to the internet through what was AT&T BB. They just moved accross town this week and for starters when he hooked everything back together they wouldn't see each other through NN. The Comcast guy was able to get them hooked back up to the internet but still the two PC's refused to show up in NN. Then after about 2
days one PC stopped connecting to the internet. I got by there tonight and this is what was happening to me...
The one computer that work for a couple of days never got online for me. I tried pinging the router several different times through the evening and got inconsistant results but never got 4 consecutive replies. Pinged the nic with no problems. Now for the other computer- It will connect, but ususally after a fresh boot. Pinging yielded perfect results until you stop to try and open IE then no page and no ping. Even when I tried to login to the router it would either not go or go and stall out when you would select another tab. Nothing with his settings or equipment changed except the modem. I tried different cables, resetting the router and approaching one computer at a time taking the router out of the loop and going straight to the modem. Still one pc would not work and the other one was iffy. I wasn't able to try and reseat the nic to the one that was not connecting at all and although it pinged ok I wonder if it could have developed a problem during the move.
I hope this all makes some sense and but I tried all tricks and possibilites I could think of so thanks for any more ideas.
