I have a 3com Etherlink III ISA from 1997 and a Leadfast PCI NIC. I am using a Cat5 cable. I installed both of them and connected the cable but need to know what protocols or whatever to install next. Please Help.

First off, if you are connecting your two PCs directly (ie. without hub or switch), you should use a crossover cable instead of a normal cable.

Regarding how to install the protocals, read up:

after that you should install either tcp/ip for sharing internet access, and file/printer sharing.

you could also install netBEUI for file/printer sharing, it would be slightly more secure if your network is connected to the web.
