Networking an iMac and PCs

If you just want to communicate using TCP/IP, then FTP will work for file transfers. Just put an FTP server on one of the computers.

If you want to be able to share folders and printers and devices, then the Mac needs some driver help to use NETBEUI and NETBIOS.

I don't know if there are freeware versions, but the Mac websites probably have that info.

I have used a demo program called DAVE by Thursby Software that will allow a Mac work on a Microsoft network. Check out their web page at Thursby Software for more information and a free download.

They also have new program call MacSOHO. Looks very similar, but I have not used it before.

I have also heard a rumor that Connectix (of VirtualPC fame) will be be releasing a new product at MacWorld Expo this week that will do same thing. I will probably be looking in to this program also.
