Networking 2 offices

The 2 offices are 2.5 miles away, ive been researching on how to make a WAN between the 2 offices via ADSL, any suggestions would be appreciated, becides a hardwire

T1 is 1.54Mbps and fiber is even faster. Are you still thinking about DSL? Who is your provider?

And although I don't know a whole lot about this you should also check pricing for having fiber run between the offices as in the long run it may end up being cheaper.

there's a whole slew of ways to do this.

What speed do you need?

first step might be to call your local telco and see what they have to offer.

see 512 is the fastest connection offered currently. and we dont want to run a fiber since we rent and are planning to move in awhile.

The speed of the connection between the 2 offices id expect maby 10kbs to 20kbs

do you have line of site? Since they are only 2.5 miles away, a Wireless WAN might be an option. Higher up-front costs but you may recoop that soon if you plan on running a t1+ or more.

also matters how far they plan to move later.. if he goes too far he would have just wasted the money to get a Wireless WAN

see if you can lease a copper line between the 2 area. You can then run pair gain which will emulate t1 connection between the 2 site.

I use netscreens, I also have a watchguard here for other duties. I think they are both capable. IMO watchguard is a little more user friendly, but the netscreen feels more robust.

Whoa, that's not usable bandwidth for anything. What do you want to share between offices?

I would agree with the check LOS...mast on the buildings, no trees (or small trees to get bigger before you move) and a pair of radios. Tranzio offers great wireless bridges on A band (54Mb/s) and they are very reliable. We have had some running on a 7ish mile link for months without a hiccup.
