Networked home doorbell

Hi, I'm not sure this is the right forum but here goes. We recently bought a house that is all wired--security cameras etc. Anyway, I guess the doorbell worked with the landline phone system. We don't have a landline and don't plan on getting one. Is there something I can do to use the existing system without the landline?

Someone told me that I could plug in any working phone and it would ring regardless of being connected to outside. I have a great old rotary that I thought would be a very cool doorbell but no.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like you have or need something like this:
If you have the same or similar, it will have a small AC Power unit -- maybe it is not connected to the AC Line or it is not wired to the Telephone Jacks in the house.
