network traffic in bytes not packets

When I click on the little network icon in the system tray, and it brings up the LAN status dialog, the info on the amount of data sent and received is in packets. Is there any way to show this data in bytes. My other comp has a netgear card in it, and it shows the data in bytes. This comp has onboard ethernet. They're both running XP Pro. So I'm guessing it might be something in the drivers, that can't be changed easily.
 
If I remember correctly, my LAN traffic used to be displayed in packets, and after upgrading to the latest 3Com drivers, the traffic was displayed in bytes. Don't really know why... 😕
 
Same here, I have mutiple computer and some of them display bytes and another display packets.
I think it probably depend on the drivers.
 
In case anyone was wondering, the XP(and probably win2000) task manager can keep track of how much data has gone through. Just go to the network tab, then go to view->select columns, and select bytes sent and bytes received. Then click on Options->Show Cululative Data. And that'll show you how many bytes sent and received since you last restarted.
