Network Testing Tools

Is there any tools avaliable to test the throughput of a network. either linux or windows based. Basically I need to test a 3com stack of four 3300 switches. i need to generate massive amounts of traffic across 4 VLANS to see how they handle it and to make sure that all the error / storm control is working as it should.

Cheers

Ghost some images across your segments and see how they do.

good idea but not really do able im afraid. i have sent approx 10gigs of data via ftp all at the same time to different ftp servers but thourhgput didnt suffer at all all sends and gets were maxing out at 11mb/s and staying there 🙁 need something that generates shedloads of traffic

a bunch of high quality video feeds or you could transfer a bunch of 3gb mpeg-2's

the best way though would be to purchase a good network anaylyzer and plug it into your network. some local network installer companies carry these, fewer still know how to use them properly though.
