network storage box

here is my idea:

i mod xboxs for people ALL the time, and as a result, i have a plethora of 10gb hard drives just sitting there. i want to somehow put them all in a box that connects to the network, but doesnt really need a computer to run. all it needs to do is store things on all the drives and have network connection.

i dont know how to explain this, but see what you guys think based on that little bit of info.

put lots of 10gb drives in 1 box
needs to be able to lease IPs
do-able w/o a motherboard and cpu?

AFAIK you're going to need a computer to put them in.

There are commercial products like this (i.e Networkable Hard Drive) but they are very expensive.

You can set an old computer, no need for keyboard or monitor just a box with hard drive and simple video card. For $50 you probably can find a computer like this, P-II level with w98 lic.

You can remoter control the box with this.

You can try to get something like a VIA c3. It's low powered and shouldn't drain your wallet much.

Or you can mod your x-box into a Linux server!
