network still work in standby mode??

my set up is 2 nic cirds in main computer onle hooked to cable modem the other to hub.. then from the hub to second computer.. i am using windows me network wizerd to network. now my question is that will the network only work if the main computer in on, or can it still work if i put the main computer in standby mode ?????
 
It won't work, but you can always start a ping from one of the computers on your hub to show yourself. 🙂
