I am annoyed with Network Solutions. My business domain is expiring and we are going to close it. So, I was just going to create a new site for personal use with some of the stuff there. I was on the NS page (that is where the business with registered with.) "Cool, the site I want is available."

Go forward a day, I think I will use GoDaddy because I can say no to all the add-ons and the site will be $25 cheaper. Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.... Network Solutions now shows it as registered to them for a year. WTH... Go to NS, still available. Network Solutions sucks. I will use something else than give those btards the satisfaction.

So, if you think you have a cool domain name, don't research it through Network Solutions unless you plan to use them.

wait a week and try godaddy again

NS is currently being suded Class Action style for domain squatting, everytime you search on them for a site they go and reserve it for 5 days or whatever so you cant register it anywhere else

I wonder if they have to pay to register when they do this...if so, we should make some crazy bot that searches for thousands of random domain names...the charges would add up.

Also, I don't understand why companies use domain.com or register.com for their domains. Guys, you are paying close to $50/year for what NameCheap charges $9/year.

Thanks, and Cool. Next week then. I hope that suit goes through soon.

Off to NameCheap...

Edit - Namecheap is $9.29/yr and free domain masking for one site. That is $10 at NS.

I searched "NetworkSolutionsisgettingsuedLOL.com"

Let's see if they reserve that one.

There was another thread about this and a class action lawsuit in the works because of the practice these assholes are using.

The identical circumstances happened to me but I did register with NetSol because I didn't want to chance losing the domain name. That marks the last time I will ever visit their web site, except to transfer the domain over to my regular registrar in 60 days.

The Inquirer or The Register did a story about this too and in the comments people had fun with reserving names.

Update.... 4 days. I was able to get namecheap to register my name last night. So, it took 4 days for the hold to expire at NS. Less than $10 with Whois obfustification free (personal site with home addr and phone).
