network sharing & password

i am having a problem accessing files on another computer set up through a network. it asks for a password that we do not remember setting up. also there seems 2 be 2 shared folders for the same contents on one computer. how do i reset the network so we can start all over or how do i go about fixing the network password & file sharing settings? we are both using windows xp sp2. thanks in advance
