Network Security Programs?

I just got my first wireless router, and was looking for good programs that I could run on my main machine that would allow me to monitor my network activity (specifically for wireless). I know unprotected wireless lans could be used by anyone close enough to tap into their signal. Just looking for a program that would show me who is using my wireless, maybe have the ability to password protect it or something like that, and could just help keep is safe. Any user-friendly programs out there? Thanks.

1. Secure your network (best option).
2. Log into the router to view connected wireless clients.

how do you secure your network? is that a router feature, or do you need software for that?

Take a look here. And while you are there I would browse the rest of the site too. There is lots of great information on networking topics.

If you tell us the model of your router we can better help with configuration. In addition, the models for the wireless access cards for your laptops and PCs would be good. If you don't know these, the model numbers from the computer.

i will read through that site, thanks. i have a d-link dgl-4300 router, and i'm not sure what kind of access card i have, it's a laptop with the pentium mobile technology, it's all internal. then randomly i'll have mac laptops accessing the network wirelessly, but they belong to friends of mine who come over, not sure offhand what's inside.
