-I have a LinksysWRT54Gs Router/AP
-I live in a Two-story house, with a basement, where the wireless client is ( Linksys wusb54 )
-The router/AP is on the second floor near a window. Trans power is at 47mw.
-The SnR at the Client is approximately 65dB.

Currently I am getting a dismal transfer rate of 3Mbps at a vertical distance of approximately 25ft from the AP.

Question.

Would my wireless performance improve if I were to put the AP in the basement and the clients uptairs?
Thanks

You should try to put the router as close to the middle of the house as possible if you want full coverage. So you could put it somewhere on the main floor if you have that option. Otherwise I'd put it in the ceiling of the basement.

You could try tilting the antenna to give you more of an angled range if the client is always going to be in the same place. Or just put them both in the same part of the house to make it even better.

Check the antenna directions, too. WAP signals are toroidal (going out in a kind of donut shape, imagine the antenna sticking through the hole), so for a good vertical signal set your antenna horizontally.

Yeah..I've met with it and gotten it up to 4Mbps recently, but that is as far as it will go.

BTW, I mean 3 MEGABITS/sec, NOT the larger 3MEGABYTES/s :(
