I just hooked up my Linksys WRT45G and only ONE computer can get online. I have 3 computers hooked up to router and I am using a Motorola Surfboard Modem on cable broadband. All are XP machines, all are hardwired for now. I configured the router on the machine that cannot connect to the internet.

What type of error comes on the one that can connect.

More info needed....

the one that gets onto the internet...lemme guess, thats the one that originally was on the net before you got the router?

is each PC getting an IP/Subnet and gateway from the router?
Is the router set to do DHCP or is it disabled by chance?

Well I got them all to work but I first had to restore to factory settings. I then did all that my Virtual Work required BUT I left out the HTTP to HTTPS change and it works fine. Ugh. It is DHCP, BTW. It wouldn't even let me log in to the router. The one successfully running machine even eventually lost its' connectivity. So I don't know what went down.

this is nuts - the connection crapped out again - take the router out the equation and it's fine - I don't know what to check next - cables are all good too...

Heh, well I put my ol' D-LINK 707P back on as my router and I still have the problem - I lose PC/Activity within some random period of time. I am baffled, this is a newer Motorola Surfboard modem that seems to be fine by itself. Can a modem be called defective if it works great by itself but not with routers? Is there something else I am missing?

I did write to DLINK and they mentioned that too much traffic can be an issue - and they recommended getting rid of UPnP on my PCs - though my PC doesn't seem to have it anyway. DLINK doesn't offer a firmware update for the DI-707P. Linksys hasn't gotten back to me but I still had issues after the latest update. Another site said I had to change the WLAN setting on my routers to match the modem (100 mbps); I don't see such a setting option. I am really thinking these routers are done for. I had another site recommend I get a good small business router since most home routers stink; any recommendations?
