Hey everybody I am on my second build and I can honestly say the second time has been much more of a challenge then the first. I am having some problems with my ethernet port on my EPoX 9NPA-Ultra as no matter how many times I install the drivers, and update the network connection I cannot get online. I have tried several different driver install methods whether via Windows New Hardware or provided software both of which did not work. When ever I plug the ethernet cord in the computer doesn't show any connection, except for behind the computer which does have a light flashing. I just want to know if there is something dumb I am missing or should I buy a new MIC card. By the way I am running Widnows XP Home SP1! Thanks for your help in advance!

If you have DSL, chances are you need to have the PPPOE protocal. Connecting through a router? Is the nic shown as working in device manager? Need more info.

Ok when I look under device manager all it shows is the 1394 connection. I am connecting through a router yes! And yes I have DSL through SBC aka now ATT.

I should also mention the computer never shows any sign of trying to connect either, although the back lights on the motherboard do indicate that something is "connected", windows never gets that message.

Check your bios settings to see if the nic is enabled, or buy a cheapo 10 buck nic.

Ya I was thinking of just buying a cheap NIC card. I was looking in the bios, what exactly would I want to check and make sure it is enabled?

I don't think so. Not as long as your modem is handling the username/pass for you.

It will "login" for you and pass the data on to your router just as if it was plugged into your computer. (In theory.)

OP are you sure you have the correct drivers?

Go into your device manager and check if there is a device with a yellow exclamation point by it. You can double click on this to open its properties, and then you can "Update the driver" or "Install the driver" for the device. Put the motherboard CD in the drive and direct it to search there.

If it does not find a driver either try using Everest to figure out exactly what NIC you have and get drivers online from the manufacturer, or buy a cheap NIC from the store.

GL! :)

Also, the nVidia network cards can be very finnicky as well too man. I posted a comprehensive walkthrough of what you should try to get these things working. First & foremost, I would try just hooking it up via direct connect if you haven't. This would eliminate the router as the source of the problem. I'm gonna look for that write-up for you, but if I can't find it I will go through the steps I normally take.

Clearly, his NIC isn't present (turned off in the BIOS), or not installed (drivers are not installing for the device). I doubt hooking it right to his Modem will solve this issue.

Ok so I got a new NIC and found to still have problems. I tried just booting up the system and it did not recognize any new hardware, and then I plugged my ethernet cable into the back and I do have green lights from the card but Windows is not showing anything. I tried installing it with the CD and nothing happened. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!

At this point its one of two things:

1. Too much stuff sharing IRQs or bios settings are whacky. Try resetting bios options to its default and see what happens.

2. XP install went wrong somewhere. Try doing (if absolutely necessary) a repair install over your existing XP.

I'm thinking your bios settings are funky, try setting the defaults first and see what happens.

I had this same problem all of sudden one day my network adaptor disapeared.
tried reinstalling drivers and nothing happened.
Finally I decided to check the bios I found two settings under "intergrated periphials" the lan one i enabled right under that menu, and the other lan option is under onboard devices and i put that lan option to auto.
Restarted comp and it recognized the nic.

thats what worked for me i also have the same motherboard as ya.
