Network question. Help

I am thinking about assembling a network in the vacations to play UT. I possess an old network that uses coaxial cable. I want to know if I must use a HUB or if with just the network cards is possible to assemble a network for 10 people?

Thanks.

If you want to assemble a network for 10 people you should go for the following:

10+ port fast ethernet hub
10 10/100Mbps PCI adapter NICs
10 Cat5 UTP cables

Just install a NIC on each machine, and run a CAT5 cable from each NIC to the hub. Then configure the network (there are plenty of help guides out there) and you're ready to roll 🙂

Change that to 10/100 fast ethernet switch, a 10-16 port, costs alot but million times better.

But you can use choax, it just realy sucks, no hub needed, just 9 choax coards, 10 T peaces and 2 end peaces.

It really sucks???🙂

Yeah, coax sucks big time! Can you even get new cards with coax? Make sure you ground those suckers! I remember back in the coax heyday, if they weren't grounded properly and you touche to computer chasis', you could get a hell of a shock! hehehe....computing was fun back then.

D-link makes good cheap hubs...
I have the 8 port+Bnc, its 10Mbit only but it was fine for a 5 machine Lan Party..

Yeah, going coax would hamper your gaming performance...BIGTIME. A cheap hub would be one of those DLink or LinkSys hubs.

I'm going to write this in portuguese so it's easier for bauerbrazil to understand ... I think ...

And for those who didn't understand, it's none of your business 😉

Hmm, this will be fun ... roc919, translate the text that I wrote, just to see what you think is happening 😉
