NEtwork problems

I recently bought a linksys router for my computer. As soon as I installed it, I noticed that I couldn't send or recieve programs through ICQ, nor could I download programs from Bearshare, Limewire, etc.
I updated my version of Windows (XP Home) fully and now I can't even access secure sites (MSN mail for example) nor can I log into MSN Instant Messenger. (Though the problem extends further than just MSN programs)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The ICQ, bearshare, and limewire issues probably have to do with the NAT. Try to forward the appropriate ports to your computer.

The https issue is wierd. Any errors?

And this does belong in the Networking forum. There are knowledgable people there that can definitely help. Maybe even someone that can tell you how to forward the ports if you mention the model of your linksys NAT device. Oh, and of course what ports to forward if you can't find it in google. 😉

Are you running a firewall on your pc? What model router and how do you have it setup? Do you use PPPoE, static ip, dynamic ip? Does putting your computer on DMZ solve all these problems?

You'll have to open various ports on the router so you can access those programs. Go to the support page for the company that makes your router and I'm sure they will have the necessary ports listed along with the instructions on how to open them. I had to do the same for my D-Link router and their support pages were excellent.
