I have no idea what "sending packets keep resetting" even means.

When the local area connection status window is open, on the lower box there is sent and received stats. On my roommates computer, the send packet resets to 0 whenever accessing the home network we have setup. The transferring of the files are very slow. Also It seems like after some time, my roommate seems to lose his connection to the network, as the file transfer becomes disconnected. Anyone know the cause of this problem, and more importantly any suggestions of solutions to this problem? It will be very helpful.
