Network Problem w/ new installation

Had my new system up and running for a few weeks and finally decided to install the network card tonight. It is a 3Com LAN card. When I boot up computer it detects new hardware and installs driver from Win98 cdrom- then hangs up. When I <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> it will only boot in safe mode. When trying to troubleshoot problem in device manager I cannot see what it is conflicting with when in safe mode. Not sure where else to start. Could it be that the card is just not compatable w/ my setup? System is running Win98SE. Thanks in advance.

it could be conflicting with one of your other cards. i'd suggest removing everything except your video card, and then try installing the nic. if it works then, you can one-by-one put your other cards back in. I've seen this work before. it's worth a shot.

Try not doing the Plug-n-Play and set up your card manually. Check to see what IRQ's you have available and go from there.
