Network probe caused by Gnucleus?

In my firewall logs (BlackIce) I noticed I had around 7000 TCP port probes. Gnucleus was also running, sending files out. When I disconnect Gnucleus, the probes stop. Obviously Gnucleus is causing the probes, but I've never seen the probes go this high? Any thoughts? Is it the client side just probing for connectivity, or is there something else going on here?

You're probably being asked to participate in searches for files or somebody found some files that they would like and are trying to connect to get them.
