Network printer with a dynamic IP...how to make it static?

I have a color plotter in my office but I guess it is its own server (I forgot what you call this type of printer) but its not hooked up to a computer...its standalone. Anyway it has a dynamic IP address on my network but when it changes everyone in the office has to re-install the printer because of this new change. How can I fix this?

or can you tell me what forum I should post this under.

TIA,
Rob

What printer is it?

I don't really understand why it would change it's IP like that. But tell us what printer it is, I'm sure we can google it or look on the Manufacturer Web Site.

If it has a built in nic card, just use the lcd menu on the printer, turn off dhcp and give it a static address or you can reserve its dhcp address on your server.

You also need to give a little background info on your network.

Ding ding ding. WinnAr.

Background info on network would help, but IMO model # of printer is better. There's probably a "Static IP" option.

If not, do like mentioned above and just create a static DHCP lease server-side.

Thanks guys! heres some info...

We are running a single file server I think MS Server with a netopia router and netgear switch. I think we have over 36 computers networked.

The plotter is a HP DesignJet 800ps 42

is that enough info?

Thanks again!

you can get a router so it will have a "fake ip", the router should automatically adjust even if the ip changes on the printer. but then agian im not sure
