Ok, Here is the story.
There is a peer-to-peer network of 7 win98/2k pro pcs with one hp 8000 network printer( with jetdirect card with an ip address of course). Now the problems is that the printer shows up as a node in some win98 network neighbourhood and does not in others.while the same pcs show up in all pcs, only on some of the computers I cant find the hp network printer.
Briefly, when i click on network neighbourhood i can see all the pcs in the workgroup and the printer but in one or two computers I see the sames pcs in the workgroup except the network printer.
Please help!!Any suggetions?
Thanks you very vert much?

Try manually adding the printer, by TCP/IP port in the problem computers. Once that is done, you should be fine.

Hi thanks for the reply
Now, Can you elaborate on what you mean by manually adding the printer?
All I know is that when i click on add printer icon I have only two choices, the network one if i put the ip address of the printer it will show up as a Offline printer ( which is not).
Thanks again for the help

That sounds like something is messed up in the TCP/IP stack in the suspect win98 machines. Sometimes, it can be fixed by deleting and reinstalling the network devices and protocols. Other times, I have seen it go as far as a win98 fresh install. Do you have all the 98 boxes configured exactly the same, file and printer sharing enabled, etc.?

OK I did a fresh install for 98 and reloaded the tcp/ip and file and print sharing but still is the same no printer, as a matter of fact, when i do a search for network printers from add printers icon i only see 2 pcs, while when i do the same thing from network neighbour hood i see all the pcs except the printer.
Thanks again

I don't think the jet direct printe server is supposed to show up under network neighborhood.

You can either share the printer from a machine (this box will queue up the print jobs and send them to the printer) or you can printe directly the IP address of the jet direct card.

Hi
But it already shows up in network neighbourhood of on pc. and you see the printer is not a print server, just another node on the network and already is being used by some pcs.
Thanks

eh i have the same problem with my network computers, i cant see the computer in network neighborhood, let alone a computer's shared items...(windows XP network)

i just dont worry about it and just map every time i need to access network items...
i share the a printer on one computer, and it doesnt show up, but i just know that its shared as \\192.168.0.1\printer...so i install it as a network printer in the printers menu and never worry again

same deal with shared drives, i just map them to a drive...
