network not working

ok, we have a network here with a linksys BEFSR81, the problem lies with 1 computer, the one i just built for my cousin its a P4 2.8 with a Gigabyte 8knxp mobo (i875P aka gigabit lan), well one day the lan stopped working, we formatted the thing and that didn't work, the drivers for the lan on the CD from gigabyte didn't work, and the ones i d/led and burned didn't work. then his friend came over and put a nic into the comp and the driver for that works for the onboard lan, but the comp can't be seen on the network by the other comps, but it shows up on the router. Any one know whats going on here. And its not my hardware so im limited in what i can do to make it work

Speaking to myself I can not really understand what is working and what is not and what exactly the friend's drivers do?

If the Mobo does not work RMA the Mobo or get a PCI NIC for few $$$.

nope, sharing isn't the problem. To other computers on the network his computer doesn't show up as being on the network
