Hello all, Network issue, many thanks in advance, you all rule. Ok.

Running windows xp home, Trying to access my friends 250gb Lacie Firewire Drive over my network.
I can see the hard drive on his computer, but not the external storage. What between the both of us , can we do so that I may access this. His Mac OS Version is OS 10.3. Thanks!

He says it is, and its not working, so now hes using this program called "sharepoints" and thats not working either. It just created another folder I can see on my network called "homes" and I can see the same files in his main disk on his laptop.

Eck, Someone could tell me what to do on his side, Im not that that new. I think hes seriously doing something wrong. I just cant see the firewire drive from my computer, but I can see his regular main disk. Would any type of program on my end or his end assist? What about FTP method ?. My connection method right now is to go through "My Network Places" and go through my workgroup name WORKGROUP. And then in through his folder. Perhaps the firewire drive on his side is incompatible with being seen through this method since its external ?

Nope, OS X uses Samba for SMB file sharing so anything can be shared even network mounted things. Generally Samba is pretty simple to setup by editing the smb.conf file by hand, but I have no idea how OS X would deal with manual edits nor how Apple expects you to share things.

put a symbolic link to the Firewire drive in his home directory. You do that by going to terminal and typing:
ln -s /Volumes/Whatever-the-firewire-drive-is-called ./firewiredrive
Then it's easy to access from My Network Places on your box. Click on his directory in his computer within WORKGROUP, and it should be right there looking at you like a folder.

NOTE!!! A symbolic link is not the same as an alias!!! He must use terminal to do it. I advise just doing:
ls /Volumes
first to actually check what the firewire drive is mounted as before doing the above ln command.
