network is not accessible?

I'm trying to add my thinkpad laptop to a network.
It's running windows 95 and the network card is a xircom creditcard combo

I'm trying to network it using a crossover cable to my W2K computer.

When trying to view the entire network from the w95 computer it says that the network is unaccessible, please see windows help for more details....

The network on my W2K computer works fine, and I usually have it connected to a XP computer with that same crossover cable.

I tried reinstalling all the drivers on the laptop, and uninstalling/reinstalling microsoft network client (which is already installed on the w2k computer) I'm using the tcp/ip protocol.

Any ideas on what I should do to get this working?

have you set the ip addresses to be within the same range i.e 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2 and have you made sure they are in the same workgroup

more info... can anyone help?

Most of the settings are all on automatic, although I've tried adjusting the ip's, flow rate, etc.

The w95 is set up with:
tcp/ip
microsoft client
microsoft file sharing (sharing is enabled)

microsoft client login

When I start up the computer, it asks me for my network name and pass. I've tried setting up a user system on w95 and using a user name/pass from my w2k computer. Either way, I still could not look at the network.

I'm thinking something must not be configured right on my laptop because I can't even get as far as a workgroup or anything. It pops up with that error right when I try to look at the microsoft network.
