Network Gaming

I am cluless about this subject but after a lot of reading and many trials and errors I 've managed to set up a fully fuctioning home networking! I can share internet connection, files, printing and all of that good stuff. Now I am trying to play battlefield 1942 in multi-player mode but I am having trouble setting it up. This is my setup: Main PC is connected to Linksys WRT54G router which is connected to a DSL moderm. A wireless notebook adapter-Linksysy WPC54G- is installed on Dell D600 laptop.

Do I need to have two copies of the game- one on each machine to do multiplayer? Can some one please give me a step by step directions how to do this? Thanks for helping out a newbie!!

Yes, you need two copies of the game, one per computer. Other than that, it should just work if your network is set up. Have you tried it yet?

Sounds like you've got the networking stuff figured out.

As for game specifics, read the manual...it'll tell you there how to setup network gaming. Some games require you to purchase multiple copies, some give you a separate disc to give to someone that only allows multiplayer, so it depends per game.

In bf1942, you can install it on both machines and just use one of the retail discs in each machine. The game should run with either disc in. Only one machine will be able to play on the internet though because you will have used the same cd key for both installs. You should be able to setup a lan game though.
