Network Equipment Upgrade Suggestions

At my business I run a Netgear FVM318 which has served me very well as far as a router with VPN setup goes. However I am outgrown past the 8 ports on this router.

I need at least 16 ports if not 24. Also the wireless capabilities of the FVM318 are limited to speeds of a B wireless. I need to connect at G.

My question is do I get a new router and new switch or just get a new switch and Wireless access point as the router seems to function fine. We have 2 locations with the same router and the VPN setup on this router seems to be very reliable. Our 2nd location hasn't out grown this router nor will it ever.

Any suggestions on what to get?

need info:

-budget
-#of clients wired/wireless
-etc

If you truly feel that you just want more switch ports then buy a switch and buy an access point like you said. 🙂 Just make sure to turn off the main routers AP.

I will need about 14 Wired users and about 3 Wireless users.

I would like to keep the cost under $1000.

Get a 24port Netgear switch and a couple LinkSys G-series access points.

If the router/VPN ain't broke, don't fix it, and dedicated access points are more reliable anyways.
