I'm going to Lan connect my new PC (XP Pro, onboard Gigabit Ethernet) to my old
PC (Win 95, OSR2-B, 128 mb mem, NIC 10/100) via a router. Since cable internet
access is unavailable to me, I'm about to switch from dial-up to DSL, and will
want to share internet access.
I've been advised that PPPoE DSL access may be problematic with router,
depending on the accompanying software. I'm also curious whether the Old PC's
10/100 NIC will interact well with the new PC's onboard Gibabit Lan.
Am considering DSL service through www.dslextreme.com, since their service is
(supposedly) compatible with my old PC (SBC's DSL is not). DslExtreme requires
customer to use the following DSL modem: Speadstream DSL modem : 5260 adsl
modem.
Request brand/model #'s or website references for 10/100 NIC, router, and
software (if good software not included with recommended router).
