at school, we have a bunch of computers for work. but of course, students goof off and play games etc etc. some of the more bold and "excited" freshmen (9th grade) visit pr0n sites or search for each others' names with the word gay. oh, those freshmen.

anyways, i can walk around, but its easy enough to hide the window when i come by. so i i want a program to run from my computer so i can get snapshots of all the computers. it would be neat to be able to see what everyone was working on. (i'm not big brother, i want to help.) i could also be lazy and look at their paper/code from my computer instead of getting up.

i think that this is what punkbuster does, right? random shots to catch cheaters.

i will also try to block non-productive sites, but i'd still like to be able to do this.

and if you are ever searching for your gay friend, try http://www.bill.gates.isgay.com <- warning, lots of pop ups if you use IE. thank god the students didnt find this site.

Think this would work ? BTW, I don't think that is what punkbuster does. They would need a lot of people to do that. Also, is this a school district ?

i will look more into that program, amdfanboy. and as far as i know, punkbuster can take screens liek this: http://www.collectiveconspiracy.com/busted/outcast.png in battlefield.

this is not a school district. it's a small school where we are going to have a lab ~20-30 computers.

to hardcore: right, its hard to think of people being helpful, i agree. but when you have 9th graders running around, you can't trust them. (cynical, sure). i'd much prefer to be able to see what is on their screens from my computer rather than running around like a headless chicken to make sure everyone is on task. i dont really want to see what's on their screens, i just want them to know they can get caught. email, some off task is ok, but if youre playing games all period or pr0n, i need to know.

I'm assuming these are Win2k or XP machines?
In that case, set them up on a domain and use Group Policy to strictly enforce what can be run on those machines, and then some kind of web proxy to filter their internet content.

I know it's fun to catch people red-handed, but outright prevention will free you up to work on more interesting projects than tracking down the kid that's playing BF1942.
