Since there is an A+ thread, I thought I'd start a Network+ for those who are currently or will take the exam sometime soon. I'm currently reading Mike Meyer's passport book for Network+ cert and planning to take the exam soon. Should this book alone be enough to pass the exam? Anyone have any recent study materials?

Also, my next cert will be Security+ so any materials on that will also help, thanks!

I also have a Network+ study book from Mike Myers, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Focusing on my A+ books now.

I would be interested in knowing what else I should study on.

Though, I did take a N+ pretest that came with the book and scored a 65% right out.

I took both A+ and Network+ plus a few years ago. took them 1 week apart. For what it's worth, I found Network+ to be the easier of the two.

Just remember,

All People Seem to Need Data Processing

Application
Presentation
Session
Transport
Network
Data
Physical

Good start, but you have to know what happens at each layer and which devices live at each layer.

 The prestest that came with my study book had questions on it about that, and the book covers it in detail.

Did CompTIA write the pre-test? no.

I passed Network + (not that that's saying much) the questions were basically multiple choice choose the order, and maybe one question that barely scratched the surface of the OSI model.

So, if I'm studying to pass the CCNA, I should get enough information to easily pass the N+?

yeah for sure.

You can really study for like 2 days just by using google and go in and pass Network +.

Network + is basically memorizing a lot of acronyms more than anything else. At least that is how i remember it. If your preparing to test for a CCNA you should be able to do net + in your sleep.

On my Net+ test I had to know what happened at all the layers.

I also got asked 2 questions about Kerberos encrpytion.

I found it much harder than my A+ which I was able to pass with a nearly perfect score, as opposed to my Network+ which was waa-aa-yy harder (though not too bad, I just read the Net+ Mike Myers book, don't think it was as good as his A+ book.)

The Mike Meyers books rock. I met him in Pittsburgh about 6 years back, hell of a nice guy. Network+ like A+ are really easy.

When I took my Net+ there was no mention of the OSI model/ Network layers. It was mostly protocol and acronyms. What is routable what isnt etc
