I am trying to share my @Home cable modem. The internet portion is running fine. However when I try to put in a second NIC... The second NIC installs fine and I specify an IP for it (eg. 192.168.0.1) but when I reboot and run winipcfg or ipconfig it always shows only one adapter (the one connected to the cable modem). I just can't figure it out! I have shared internet connections with this computer before. Could it be a hardware conflict? (I just got a new TV Tuner card.. but everything looks peachy in Device Manager)

TIA..

NICs are fussy about PCI slots. Put it in 2 or 3. I'm using a USB NIC for internet connection because I ran out of eligible PCI slots for second NIC. USB is only 12Mb/sec max. - slow for LAN, but fast enough for internet.

Umm....USB is 12MB/s, Ethernet LANs are usually 10Mbps or 100Mbps.

MB = MegaByte
Mb = MegaBit

USB has a theoritical limit of 12MB/s which equals 96Mb/s.....so a USB LAN NIC should be able to operate in a 10/100 environment with little or no performance degration.
