Network card gaming

If Iam building a decent gaming computer and I want to play games like Half-Life 2 online do I need a network card or would it work just as good pluging it into USB ports on the Motherboard.
 
I'm gonna assume you mean the onboard ethernet. If your mobo has one than it will work just as well as getting a NIC card. Either or.
 
usb modems use up a bit more of your cpu usage, but you probably won't notice it too much. either way will work fine though, but i'd just prefer to use ethernet and have all my cpu for the games 😛
