3com makes good stuff, maybe a little pricey depending on how much beer money you wanna spend on your computer.

I have a Netgear FA310TX that I bought online for under 20 bucks. Works pretty well on my home network (2 other computers sharing DSL).

Get an internal one if you aren't afraid of opening your computer up to install it. If you've never added a card, it's VERY simple to do as long as you have an open PCI slot.

I have a few 3Com 3C905 cards, windows 98 has working driver built in. Never have problem with them in Windows 98.

Lots of ppl use Netgear, and those are great NICs...

I personally use Linksys, never had any troubles with them in all the OSs I use (win98, win2k, RedHat 6.2 )...

If you have the cash though, definitely go with 3com...

Did you check with your College's Networking Support Services FIRST? More than likely they have a DEFAULT network card that they support (unless you can do this yourself). This may also means they will have a deal worked out with a vendor (or may even sell them) where you can get a good deal for less $$$$.

Good Luck
