You should not be putting ends onto solid cable. It's problematic.

Purchase quality cat6 cables in the lengths you need. These cables will work without problems that you can't see or test (without a mutli thousand dollar tool). Cables are cheap. Don't skimp on this.

Thanks for replying. I have another question I am going to use an access point with power over ethernet. How can I tell if the router will support it?

Both the AP and the switch will need to support PoE (power over ethernet).

It might be better if you describe in detail what you are trying to achieve.

Well I need to install new wireless access points into the building im working in. I want to do this with as little wires as possible. So I wanted to know if I could use poe. But I cant find if it supports it.

are you 100% sure your AP's support PoE? easiest way to check the router is, well, try it or read the manual.

if it doesnt, you could always use PoE injectors.

Another question there is currently a motorola SB4101 modem in place would there be any real benefit to changing it to a MOTOROLA SB5120?

biggest difference is DOCSIS 1.0 (SB4101) vs 2.0 (SB5120). depends on your level of service, but most likely youll be find with the SB4101.

I am setting up an access point with power over ethernet. With the access point though its more then 100 feet away so I am going to use 2 100ft cat 6 cables and I wanted to know that since im using those I am going to use an ethernet coupler would the poe travel through the coupler?

the coupler will work, but id advise against it. ive seen people use it as a long-term solution because they didnt want to go through the trouble of the long run, and it often bites them in the ass.

is there anyone in your area you could have make a longer cable and have them terminate it?

if you really have to use it, make sure theres *no* pressure on the lines at the coupler. i still say even *thats* a bad idea.

yes, thats what i mean. and id find a way to prevent moisture from ever getting in if theres even a small chance of it.

then again, id still never use one for anything long term.
