network cable

hi all,

there are so many different types of network cables out there and im confused on which one to get... they have teh cat5 cable, cat6, crossover... and im really overwhelmed on picking one since i want to buy it online because it is much cheaper.

all i want to do is connect it from my wireless router to my computer so i can use the internet.... share files... etc.

could someone tell me which one to get, and if possible, give me a run down on what the other cables are used for. it would be so much help. thanks

CAT5 ...not crossover!! Also the short of the difference between straight thru and crossover.

straight thru for connecting hub/router to NIC

crossover for connecting hub to hub or NIC to NIC

straight through (or non-crossover)

CAT 5e and CAT 6 are higher grade network cable that are NOT NECESSARY in your case. CAT 5e supports gigabit speeds that you won't be running. CAT6 has more stringent noise specs that don't currently really matter at all for end users. Just get CAT 5 and you'll be fine.
