"Network cable unplugged", but it's not...

I set up a home network running RoadRunner through a D-Link Dl-704 router. There are currently 2 computers on the network, mine and my parents. The router is in the same room with my computer, and I have had no problems at all. However, on my parents' computer, about every 30 seconds the "Network Cable Unplugged" bubble pops up over the network icon in the taskbar. This seems really strange, as it only happens for a few seconds, then reconnects. At first I thought it was a network cable problem, but I don't see how it could be, since it does work for about 28 out of 30 seconds.
Has anyone seen this a problem? I'm not sure if its a Win2k problem or a harware problem with the r
router or NIC.

It sounds like a marginal cable or connector. The adapter could also be flakey, or the drivers may need to be updated.

That's about all it could be. In order of ease, I'd try: New drivers, new cable, new adapter.

I had the exact same problem a few months ago. It was a cheapo linksys nic, never had any problems with it in other boxes/other os's, but it was causing the problem for me. I swapped it out with a 3com and haven't looked back. It was an odd problem though, just out of the blue the little bubble would pop up for about a second or 2 then dissapear, never noticed any problems but it was annoying.

Yeah, that's the exact problem I have, but its a 3com NIC
