network cable question(s)

I'm wanting a 50ft. cat 5 cable to hook a computer up out in my shop to my router in the house. i was looking at bestbuy.com because it's close to me and i need it asap and they had a cat 6 50ft. cable but no cat 5.

what's the difference?

also, what's the difference between cross over and patch?

i guess i could use google=p

Cat 6 will work. It's just a higher grade cable capable of higher bandwidth on gig lan cards.

You want a patch most likely.

Cross-over allows you to hook one computer to another directly without the need for hub, switch, or router.
