Mobo: Asus K8V

Just last night, I was able to get onto the internet just fine. The next day, after changing not ONE thing, my gigabit NIC won't detect the plugged in cable! What's interesting too is the fact that it's also happening to an add-on PCI NIC. I've inspected the cables, and all seems fine.

Getting frustrated now... please help, thanks.

Have you tried a known good cable? Do you connect to a modem or a router? If a router, try connecting straight to the modem in order to bypass the router and see if thats an issue.

I think I read a post here about this exact problem with an Asus mobo, possibly the same model as yours. try running a search on it... good luck.

The cable I'm using in particular was just given to me by a buddy - not sure of the brand. And yes, I have tried bypassing the router, but to no avail.

Computers are Not People you can Not take the Error Statements literally.

Bad Cable might mean that you do not have a valid connection due to an NIC failure and Not necessarily Bad Cable per-ce.

I had this problem once. I wasn't able to go on the net. After basic toubleshooting, Ccheck cables, have isp check modem, loopback test, ping router), turned out to be the router. Replaced router and everything was fine.
