I keep seeing all this talk about NAS drives (the Linksys ones). There has got to be an easy way to do this with a PC and Linux. I have searched around a little, but can't find anything jumping out at me.

I basically would like to have a PC (Pentium 2 or 3) with a Harddrive in it, that basically is booted up and works as a Network Storage device, that you can map as a network drive and use as storage.

Command line based, telnet access, something... I dunno.

Anyone know of anything that could work like this?

If you can't get that working, Win98SE, ME, 2000, XP all support file sharing to other computers on the LAN.

I guess I dont see the advantage of this over just having a NIX machine or a WinX machine running with file sharing on?
