Borislaw is trash-talking these guys big time right now. After reading the specs, it basically sounds like Ooma lite and/or MagicJack - but the device that everybody REALLY wants.

Cliffs: It seems to be an ATA supporting both USB and Ethernet. One-time purchase fee (appears to be around $100 total, imho too much), no annual fees ever. No ads or popups or installed software needed either (aside from a driver if you use USB I'm sure).

Kind of the niche between the too previously mentioned products it seems. Wonder how well it works. It's a bit overpriced imho.

You are right, that is what we really want. That is more elegant than the Magic Jack. I'm pretty heavily invested in the MJ right now, I bought a nettop computer to use for magic jack and for other purposes as well, and it has really worked out very nice.

There have been a few call quality issues from time to time though, and each time restarting that nettop computer fixed the problem. No one at my place is doing any torrenting or hd streaming or any high bandwidth activities, though, and I don't know how good it would work without having some QOS on the router for the MJ.

Not trying to make this into a magic jack review, but I know a little about the magic jack, but nothing about the nettalk device. I will say, though, one nice thing about the magic jack is that it stores contacts on the server, so you just click on a contact in the mj window and it will dial automatically, no matter what computer your magic jack is attached to. Also, when you get a voice mail, you get an email with an attached .wav file. its a great product for 20 bucks a year for sure.

You have your google voice number call your gizmo number and since it's over SIP it's free.

How did Nettalk become a publically-traded company already, just as they are releasing their first product?

Edit:
What is the maximum amount of minutes per month that can be used?
The netTALK's services must be used under normal calling circumstances and can not be abused utilizing call centers or any sort of commercial purpose.

So it's not "unlimited", but again, neither is MagicJack.

I wonder, compared to MagicJack, how long it takes to break even or even save money with one of these, compared to leaving your computer running 24x7.

Ahh... Gizmo had some sort of time limitation when you did this. At first it was like 3 hours, then 20 minutes, then 3 minutes, with people randomly saying "I was on for an hour" while others said "I was booted after 2 minutes".

I've never had any problems like that with Gizmo. The only thing I've heard was Skype has a 5 minute limit if you do SIP calls.
