Netscape/Mozilla user file transfer

I recently upgraded (reformat, clean install) my PC to Win2K, and saved the entire Netscape folder on a networked PC via shared folder. Anyone know if I can:

1) Just put the whole folder back in "Program Files", start it up and have it work, with bookmarks and email folders intact?

2) If not, can I install the newest build of Mozilla and somehow import all of my bookmarks/email folders into it?

3) If not, will my bookmarks/email folders import into a new install of Netscape 6.2? I didn't like the looks of Netscape 6.2 when it first came out, so I didn't upgrade, I was using 4.73. Any way to get that old version from Netscape if nothing else works?

Thanks,
Jason

i'm not sure if dumping the netscape directory and launch it will work. most likely you will have to install netscape for it to work, since it needs some registry keys, etc....

anyways, you don't need the whole netscape folder under program files
just reinstall netscape, create a profile (preferably with the same profile name), quit netscape, then put the contents of the profiles (from your backup) to the newly created folder
usually i only put Mail, bookmark.htm, prefs.js, and libprefs.js .... i don't think you need others.

if you want ot import to mozilla, you can just install mozilla and it will ask you whether you want to import your netscape profiles (if it finds it). just tell it to do so

similarly, the profile contents, etc, can also be imported to netscape 6.2

and you are not the only one who doesn't like netscape 6.x 🙂

to download older netscape browsers, go to their archive page ..

The important files are not located in program files, but in the

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Users50\default \XXXXXX

where xxxx is something funky

that where you will find the files posted above

Yeah, it's all good, I just installed Netscape 4.78, then moved the old User/jtrain folder into the new User folder before I started Netscape Mail, then when I created the user named jtrain, it asked me if I wanted to use the existing files - sweet!
