<< Corporate users aren?t affected by the security hole
because corporations usually have in place several
protocols that are followed before e-mails are brought
down from the server. But home users, running
Microsoft?s Outlook or Outlook Express e-mail
programs, are at risk. But even with the target base
reduced, there are still plenty of targets. Outlook Express
comes bundled with Microsoft?s Internet Explorer
browser, which is the most popular Internet browser in
use.

I don't trust Smart Update because of the recently disclosed mining of personal info by NS and AOL, so I just did it the old fashioned way; I downloaded the whole thing. Last night, on my way out to shopping for dinner, I started downloading NS 4.74. Got back, ate, and installed it.

Yep! It's faster. :D

<< It doesn`t matter what MS does, someone will always complain about it: >>

Here's a clue -- Many in the industry regard Visual Basic Script Hosting (.VBS files) one of the biggest security holes in software history. It only works in IE with Outlook and Outlook Express. Don't use them, and you don't get VBS Scripthosting viruses.

M$ was warned about this before it was released, and they have been continually warned since. Perhaps 5% of all IE users will ever need VBS, but M$ sets it as enabled in the default installation and provides no warning about it to unknowing newbies. In their eyes, it falls under the catagory of TAFNAB (That's A Feature, Not A Bug). :(

If you want your IE, Outlook and Outlook Express systems to be more secure, you can simply uninstall VBS Scripthosting. If you ever need it (unlikely in most cases), pop in your CD, and re-install it. Want more info? Here's step by step info on how to uninstall VBS:

For Win98: http://www.F-Secure.com/virus-info/u-vbs/uninstall-vbs.html

For Win 2K: http://www.F-Secure.com/virus-info/u-vbs/remove-vbs-w2k.html

Lastly, I want to repost some virus info for the 'Nix folks. I received this e-mail, a while back:

* * *

Subject: UNIX VIRUS - HONOR SYSTEM

YOU HAVE NOW RECEIVED THE UNIX VIRUS -

This virus works on the honor system:

If you're running a variant of unix or linux, please forward this message to everyone you know and delete a bunch of your own files at
random. ;)

I use Netscape primarily for its mail features. However, I did find this latest version to be noticeably faster on my (slow) dial-up.

Improvement is good.

I thought it was just me who thought 4.74 was faster... thought I was seeing things. Glad to know that I'm not the only one who noticed. As for you people saying netscape sucks, come on... the only reason ie may "seem" better to you is because many sites use microsoft implemented features that do not work on netscape.

...earlier someone mentioned setting setting the cache settings to zero to keep it from crashing..I am on a cable modem, is this true or not?

Well I tried it and it still sucks ass. Nets Crap still has problems with HTML 5.0, it can't render tables correctly, it doesn't render hover classes at all.

It's still a POS, and always will be. Blech!

Is it possible IE is more popular because it is part of Windows? In other words, people who don't know much about computers will use IE instead of Netscape because they probably don't know what Netscape is.

Jus a thought..

Yeah and people who buy Ford cars won;t know about Chevy fuel punps becuase Ford's fuel pump is built into the car.

I wish folks would lay off MS already.

I'm just saying.. IE is more popular because people either are too lazy to d/l netscape or they don't know about it. I'm not bashing MS.

I understand your point fully, Nullity. And that is precisely why MS started incorporating it into their OS's. They knew exactly what they were doing.

It took me less than a second to decide and zero second to not download it...and I feel mighty good about that. The mind was faster than technology in that case. ;)

Cruisin 1,

HTML 5 is XHTML.

Well HTML 5.0 has ben out for a while to my understanding. About the tables - when coding, if you set the table border value to 0 (for no border) it still shows in Nets Crap unless you set the value to "No" which is annoying. There are various other bugs as well, and proprietary Netscape coe.

Tables like...these forums!
Hey!
For example...
In IE, the cell with the name of each topic is a nice length, while the NS one is scrunched up.
Just one example
