From the start my skills are limited so please spare me the newb insults thanks.
I have a small business with three XP Box's but I wanted a static Ip so I called my ISP (AT&T) they show with this Netopia 3346n-002 and first thing he does is a firm ware update so info is a little hard to find. I have it as simple as one Xp Box for now till I figure this out.
I have 1 small 4-port SMC router and this Netopia. What I want is remote access to the XP Box's Like RDP, UltraVnc nothing fancy. My questions are what would be the best practice.
1. Use the Netopia as a modem only with SMC as the router with RDP forwarded will this work.
2. Use the netopia as a router or does it just suck.
3. Where is the check mark that I usually see in a linksys home router that allows incoming requests from the internet in the Netopia ?
It has five static Ip's and it?s using PPPOE
IE 1. As a Modem the Netopia has a static of 23.23.23.XX the SMC router uses the same 23.23.23.XX The XP Box uses 10.100.100.1 or 192.168.1.2 something like this, Right ?
OR
IE 2. The Netopia can be both a Modem and a router One junior IT student said I should not do this and just think of the Netopia as a modem
Go ahead slap me around I need it.
